JOHN

Patient, effective tutor for your most difficult subject

I cherish every student, but I don’t necessarily want to build a long-term relationship with them. At the cost of tutoring, that is not a good deal for everyone. I will quickly fill in the gaps, get you caught up, and teach you how to deal with new concepts on your own. Later, if your subject presents a new challenge, we can handle that with an occasional tutoring session. I'm more expensive than many other tutors. Am I worth it? ADD/ADHD

ADD is not a disease or a defect, and people with ADD are not disabled. They are often frustrated, sometimes embarrassed, and they can become depressed because they are labeled as lazy or irresponsible and their best efforts are judged "not good enough." They live in a world which expects them to act in ways which are difficult for them to manage. Coping with ADD (or ADHD) is a matter of learning habits that most people don’t have to learn, of thinking about and doing things which most people don’t have to think about or do. It's not easy, but nothing worthwhile is easy. The secret is that learning and doing those things will not stop you from being the special person you have always been. As a person "gifted" with ADD myself, I can relate to some of the challenges students face in their efforts to perform. I will not judge a student; I will meet them at their level of understanding and take them from there. I can teach them the coping techniques and skills they need. I am patient and kind, but firm when I need to be firm.

Aspergers

Aspergers is not a learning disability, but a social challenge. While I am not trained as a psychiatrist or a therapist, I have tutored several students who have Aspergers, and our results have been excellent. I am very patient and understanding, and I stay focused on the lesson regardless of my students' comments. Thus, I am able to help these students get the learning they need in a positive atmosphere.

Mariko A. from Los Angeles, CA

I took the GMAT recently, and attempted to study for it on my own using three different study guides that were loaded with examples, practice problems, and methods. Despite my self-inflicted slavery to my studying, I did not do anywhere near as well as I had hoped I would on the Quantitative section of the test. However, within a few minutes of sitting down with John, I was learning alternative, easier ways to find the answers to problems that had plagued me from Day 1 of studying on my own. I also found myself doing a great deal of material mentally rather than writing it all out. John's teaching methods pulled me out of the black hole of complication brought about by my Kaplan study guides and showed me a simpler, more time-efficient way of finding answers without having an anxiety attack of second-guessing. He's very knowledgeable, patient, encouraging, and great at building understanding and confidence. Great tutor!

Arlina L. from Pico Rivera, CA

Very patient and thorough. He has helped me a lot.

Georgia S. from San Gabriel, CA

My son had a productive and helpful lesson before a big math test. My son said he has never felt so prepared for an Algebra 2 test before. I really appreciate John's flexibility, punctuality and professionalism. We will be setting up a regular schedule to continue tutoring.

Jane D. from Los Angeles, CA

John has been a godsend for my 13 year old son, who was not being academically challenged in his current school. John has great respect for the advanced yet still-maturing mind, and takes his role seriously. The two of them discuss the application of algebra to astronomy, and then branch out from there, discussing the origins of the planet, the planets and stars, and other topics usually thought of as too difficult to tackle for a child that age. My son thoroughly enjoys John's calm presence and extraordinary knowledge. He makes learning come alive, and that is a priceless gift!

Patricia T. from La Verne, CA

John seemed to know a lot about the subject. He provided a lot of background information which really helped me to understand the application of the subject.

Lisa N. from El Monte, CA

He is easy to reach over the phone (call or text). He is able to answer all questions to a point where it is easy to understand (breaks down formulas and explains). He is very knowledgeable in many subjects, so no matter what it is he is able to help.

Susie O. from San Gabriel, CA

I needed to motivate and get my son to get ready for high school over this summer, so I decided to book a session for my son and his friend together to give them some incentive. We have gone through many different tutor situations, private, after-school, group study ... it all worked and I thought that was what I should expect. But one session with John completely changed my mind. He is effective, engaging and most of all stimulates them to think and gives them confidence for sure. As my son said he really learned how to concentrate and focus on what's in front of him. John is very effective, engaging, very patient and good listener.

Kristin L. from San Marino, CA

John tutored my son in Molecular Biology and Algebra 2 last year. Once he started working with him, the lights came on. He engaged my son from the first lesson. We are so grateful to have had the pleasure of such a patient, kind and wise tutor.

Jackie D. from Pasadena, CA

John - Both my husband and I want to thank you very much for accommodating our needs. Being open to tutoring our daughter when she returned to school up North was a blessing we never thought would be possible. You have been the consummate professional and we really appreciate everything you’ve done to prepare her for her final. We would recommend you without any hesitation!

Lee S. from New York, NY

What is shocking to me is the wide range of subjects John is an expert in. He has helped me in everything from Anatomy to History. He is really an amazing resource. So helpful and so smart. I can't recommend him highly enough!!

Bill C. from Arcadia, CA

While our son is a good student he still gets lost sometimes on the nuances of High School Chemistry. John helps him with those areas and has made a significant difference between our son getting an B+ and getting a Solid A. The convenience of working by email and phone rather than having in person meeting is just awesome. I have used various tutors and John is both dependable and able to help where and when it is needed

Joel H. from Pasadena, CA

My 13 yo son was having a little difficulty achieving his normal level of focus today. John intuitively mixed things up a bit by discussing a few other subjects including bees, ladybugs, and insect life cycles. Thus John provided an enjoyable and educational mental diversion that helped my son renew his focus.

Elena K. from La Crescenta, CA

My son just received his new SAT scores. He moved from 560 in Critical Reading last time he took it to 680. Simply amazing. Thank you, John, for helping us achieve this high goal!

Louise T. from Sierra Madre, CA

John was my 11th grade sons Algebra II tutor weekly for the past 8 months. I would recommend John as someone who will motivate your child using patience to help them understand their lessons. My son really liked Johns help and always felt like he explained the concepts better than his teacher did. Math is not my sons strength and is very hard for him to grasp so we needed John throughout the year to help our son pass his course.

Lisa P. from San Marino, CA

John L. has been a true blessing to our daughter Maren in preparing her for the SAT. Not only does he have a masterful understanding of the material, he is able to communicate it to the student in a clear and gracious way, always affirming and encouraging as he does so. Maren is an A student but felt intimidated by the math section. John took her from feeling overwhelmed to confident. She has now taken the SAT and was encouraged by the experience. Thank you, John! You are very highly recommended!

Jin S. from San Marino, CA

John L. is calm, patient, punctual, while flexible and understanding. He certainly focuses on the student's strength and encourages them for a successful development.

Denise V. from Arcadia, CA

John has made our lives so much more bearable. He really has connected with my son, who has ADHD which John understands very well. My son who is now a Senior in high school looks forward to meeting with John 2 to 3 times a week. John is very good at boosting his self esteem. My sons grades have improved steadily since starting with John over a year ago. John is also very flexible and accommodating to our schedule which is also the icing on the cake. He is knowledgeable in most subjects and truly takes his job seriously. If your child is struggling and you want to see grade improvement John is definitely the one that can get the job done an is well worth the money. From one Thankful Mother.

Gary R. from Glendale, CA

It's only been my first lesson so I don't have an opinion yet. He was easy to work with, very calm in his approach and obviously very smart. We started right off and went through the material at a good pace to understand.

Alex M. from Duarte, CA

John has tutored both my boys in algebra and pre-algebra. My oldest son started with John two years ago. After each tutoring session, I always ask my sons what to rate his lesson, and they always choose 5 stars. John is methodical, patient, and clear. As a mom, I always appreciate the fact that he "debriefs" me after the lesson and lets me know where they are and what they covered, and if there were any "rough spots". He never judges his students and always has them leaving the session with a positive mind frame. It is a wonderful thing to have such a support when emotions can run high if a child doesn't understand a concept. John is a kind, supportive, knowledgeable teacher with a breadth of knowledge. More importantly, he can lift the struggling child to success in HOW to study and give skills to help them use in all academics.

Spencer K. from South Pasadena, CA

John, We want to thank you for helping our daughter. We are very happy with her SAT score. You were instrumental to her success. Thank you.

Mirna R. from Los Angeles, CA

John is extremely intelligent and helpful!! I went with him so he could help me with my thesis paper. He is very professional and reliable!! I did not finish all of my pages since I have a hard time meeting a deadline. I emailed him my last pages at 5:00 AM and he was so responsible that woke up early to help me. I am very grateful for all of his help!! Yesterday I received my thesis and I got an A. So happy I am finally done with my B.A.! I will go with him when I start my credential program and CBEST. Thank you so much!! He is a great teacher!

Sandy W. from Arcadia, CA

My daughter was so excited and kept talking about Biology after this lesson, DNA, RNA, Mutation, Deletion, she said it was like you have opened a door and she went to a room with a lot of interesting things inside, not just questions and answers, I have never seen her so bright and talkative, it is AMAZING, Thanks.

Patricia B. from Alhambra, CA

John has been tutoring my grandson for several months. He is professional and effective. He is not only a good tutor, but a good teacher as well. His style has helped build confidence and pride and we really appreciate it. He is a good match!

JEFFREY C. from San Marino, CA

I found John very knowledgeable about many subjects about current events and real world experiences as a lawyer. However, he was unprepared to teach the verbal section of the MCAT. We read 2 passages together that I had read before, but had trouble comprehending. John did not provide me with an analysis or summary of the passages. I asked John about how to approach specific parts of the passage to improve comprehension but his feedback was not helpful. We answered quite a few questions incorrectly. His feedback for our mistakes left me unconvinced on why the correct answers were in fact correct. Comparing John to verbal instructors from my experience in 2 MCAT prep courses, he lacks a systematic and guided approach necessary to comprehending verbal passages and answering questions. He may be a great tutor for other standardized tests and possibly for the science sections of the MCAT, but not for the verbal section.

Maureen R. from Tujunga, CA

John was personable and very encouraging as he helped me study for the GMAT math section. Math is not something that comes naturally to me. John helped me not only to improve my math ability but also helped me increase my self-confidence when doing math. Both of these tactics have helped me to improve tremendously. I highly recommend John as a tutor. He is professional, knows his stuff and focuses on the needs of the student. Thanks John!

Max R. from La Canada Flintridge, CA

I have never had a tutor teach me with such clarity and patience. This man is a gem, and I'm sure can teach any student the fundamentals of the math they need to know. I had been having problems learning statistics (I'm a fairly good student, and fast learner but this is a subject I have had problems learning) and I made a great decision by emailing and setting up an appointment with Mr. Logan. I recommend this tutor to anyone who has math problems, as he can teach not only the theories, but why things are the way they are. He has taught me in 4 lessons 6 chapters worth of material (equivalent to about 6 weeks of material at the college I attend) and the material has stuck. Absolutely the best math tutor I have had to date.

Karen M. from Monrovia, CA

My nephew REALLY needed to review Geometry before his upcoming finals, so we scheduled a two-hour session with John. John is serious and gets right down to business. He was able to see what concepts were still shaky for my nephew. My nephew told me afterward that there were some things in Geometry that he knew how to do, but he didn't really understand WHY the algorithms were that way until he worked with John. He obviously has a lot of experience working with all kinds of learners, and he was able to really get my nephew to focus.

Marie C. from Altadena, CA

Our daughter struggled in Math starting in the 6th grade. Since she spent a lot of time doing her math homework, it took time away from her other classes and extra-curricular activities. We hired John to come to our house 2 hours a week to help our daughter with her math homework (Pre-Algebra, Algebra, some Geometry) and later to help her study for the ISEE exam. We were so pleased with the way John made difficult concepts easy to understand, how he taught different approaches to solving math problems, and most importantly how he encouraged our daughter. After only several months of tutoring, our daughter was able to get A's in Math, and she also received a 90th and 95th percentile ranking in the ISEE Math sections. She is also now one of the best students in her Math class. It is amazing how our daughter's attitude towards Math changed from "I hate Math" to being highly confident and excited about going to an accelerated Math track in High School. Overcoming her Math anxiety also helped her get better grades in her other classes (she is a straight A student now), which in turn helped her get accepted to several top and most selective private high schools in Pasadena and La Canada. We will certainly call John again in the future if needed and certainly when it is time to prepare for the SATs.

Dennis C. from Los Angeles, CA

I urgently needed somebody last week to teach me how to convert Lotus Wordpro documents into Microsoft Word documents, then combine Word documents into PDF documents. I needed to do it for my work as an appellate attorney. I did not have a clue as to what to do. John was very knowledgeable and knew exactly what to do. Additionally, I very much appreciated John's extreme patience. I have a very severe stuttering problem and John was as patient as a human being could be and didn't try to say the words for me like some listeners do. I couldn't be more pleased with the help John gave me. Additionally, he spent time responding to my emails and texts, which I really appreciated. I would recommend John to anybody who needs to learn how to do certain things.

Meg G. from Burbank, CA

It is very hard to find such a dedicated and talented tutor who is available for his students. He made me feel more confident about my writing skills and I appreciate that.

Stephanie C. from La Crescenta, CA

John helped me study for the GMAT and the GRE while I was applying to graduate school and he was very patient, flexible, and great at explaining the concepts I didn't understand. I do not believe I would have been admitted to graduate school had I not met him.

Kum nyo A. from Los Angeles, CA

John is flexible with meeting times. There is a time difference because I am not living in the US, and he is accommodating. We met online, and even though we had technical difficulties for about 30 minutes, he was so patient and charged me only for the 30 minutes we were able to meet. By looking at his revision, I was able to see how to make my writing better and he answered my questions immediately and concisely. I feel like I am working with a professional writer. I am satisfied with my first meeting!

Patricia L. from Arcadia, CA

So far, my son has worked with John two times on AP Chemistry. He had been having issues understanding the material because the teacher did not explain concepts well. John's thorough and patient style has helped my son grasp the concepts and gain more confidence. Moreover, my son said that, unlike other tutors who sort of make subtle judgments about what a student doesn't know which thus makes them feel a bit inferior, John doesn't make any judgments and simply works where students are with the material. My son is very happy with John's tutoring. John is also very responsive esp. via text.

Glenn T. from Arcadia, CA

Got a quick assessment after the first session. His style of tutoring made my daughter interested in prepping for the SAT. She's definitely looking forward to more sessions.

Mandy Z. from San Marino, CA

We are new immigrants to USA. John not only teaches academics, he also teaches culture which helps my son merging into the new community much easier. We love him.

Evleen B. from La Canada Flintridge, CA

John helped my son with his Chemistry course. He explained every concept in depth and saw to it that he learned what he was being taught. Our goal was to make sure he learns the course well and raise his grade, and so far it has been a wonderful experience with John.

Michaela C. from San Gabriel, CA

He was kind and very encouraging. We are planning to continue to work while I am away on an upcoming vacation.

Natalie B. from Houston, TX

Very knowledgeable in Law and can help you with an assignment fast even at last minute. Always available when needed and will make sure you understand what your doing.

Robert C. from Los Angeles, CA

If you need help writing, for any purpose, this is your guy. He knew format, he knew the law, he knew how to weave them together.

Johnson Y. from Duarte, CA

John is a very patient tutor. My math is not the best, and just from this one session, he has taught me many strategies to boost my SAT score!

Bud K. from Arcadia, CA

Excellent, patient teacher, willing to listen and address the issues of the student willing to explain more than once in different ways to be helpful. The subject he helped me with was Statistics

Kristin L. from Corvallis, OR

John tutored my son in Molecular Biology and Algebra 2 last year. Once he started working with him, the lights came on. He engaged my son from the first lesson. We are so grateful to have had the pleasure of such a patient, kind and wise tutor.

Allison H. from Arcadia, CA

He made me felt more comfortable about the subject. He knows my problems and took care of the issues. John guided me to the right solutions.

Jason M. from Ennis, TX

John is helping my daughter prepare for the ACT. When she was done with the session she felt more confident and eager. We look forward to our next lesson with John!

Holly H. from Walnut, CA

He is very knowledgeable on law things. Very patient and kind person. I do learn a lot from his lectures.

Beth F. from La Canada Flintridge, CA

We were extremely pleased with John's first visit with our 13 year old son. Our son is looking forward to the next lesson!

Laura E. from Pasadena, CA

John has been a big help with AP Chemistry. My two daughters, both Juniors, are very bright and chatty, and easily distracted after a long day at school, but he is able to keep them focused and on point. My girls feel that he does an excellent job of explaining difficult concepts. John has a terrific knack for using real-world examples to bring dry subject matter to life. Every session so far has been fun and illuminating.

Leah G. from Glendale, CA

John was great with my daughter, very encouraging and knowledgeable. He gave her some good tips on how to approach the math portion of the SAT.

James K. from Medina, WA

John knew exactly what type of assignment I was talking about. I needed help in a mock trial and he certainly helped! This really inspired me on how he was patient and helpful in providing facts and evidence I can use in my mock trial. Excellent time and well spent! definitely worth it ! You Will SEE

NING C. from San Gabriel, CA

I really like John's teaching method. He is very patient to teach me. Look forward to our next lesson.

Kymberly W. from Augusta, GA

John is the best! He is patient and always there to help. I would not have passed my Statistics class without him! With John's help, I got an A-. When I started the statistics tutoring classes, I was not confident at all. Now I have a much better understanding.

Octavia T. from La Canada Flintridge, CA

John continues to work patiently and thoroughly with our son on multiple topics. My son, age 12, really respects him and has shown real growth academically. We couldn't be happier.

Melanie J. from North Hollywood, CA

John was very helpful for preparing for the test, he was able to help me get a clearer understanding on what to focus on. I felt I did well on the test.
